Mythology Behind the Govardhan Puja
Govardhan is a small hill arranged at ‘Braj’, close to Mathura. As per the legends in ‘Vishnu Puraan’, individuals of Gokul used to honor that mountain as Lord Indra.

Master Krishna clarified them that it was Govardhan mountain and not Lord Indra, they ought to love the Govardhan.

Then Ruler Krishna approached to guarantee the security of the villagers and cows.
In the wake of performing Puja and offering supplications to Govardhan, Master Krishna elevated the mountain on the small finger of his right hand with the purpose that everyone could take shelter under the hill.
He lifted the mountain for seven days and seven evenings. After this occurrence Lord Krishna was otherwise called Giridhari.
